Concepts for this All Zones Session

Using the Missouri Framework and a CBL/RWL mind-set, participants will:

  1. Understand the important role of assessment in promoting student agency.

  2. Identify the purpose for creating and using Proficiency Scales.

  3. Gain a general understanding of the proposed SDZ Demonstration Project waiver.

6.1: Using Assessment for Learning

Mike Fulton, SRSN Lead Facilitator, speaks to the power of using assessment for learning to support student agency. Use of assessment for learning instructional strategies is a critical part of designing Real World Learning opportunities for students that support workforce development, which is inclusive of college and career readiness.

6.2: The Value of Proficiency Scales

Mike Ruyle, with Marzano Resources shared with the Success-Ready Students Network about the value of Proficiency Scales. He provided insight about the need for students, teachers, and parents to have clarity about the learning targets and expectations including the learning progressions that lead to proficiency.

6.3: System Design Zone's Demonstration Project Update

Mike Fulton, SRSN Lead Facilitator, provides an update on the System Design Zone’s Demonstration Project. The project supports recommendations by the Success-Ready Students Work Group to redesign Missouri’s assessment and accreditation systems. The Demonstration Project will include a School Innovation Waiver request to the Missouri State Board of Education seeking specific relief from statutes, rules and/or regulations that serve as barriers to high quality learning design. Included is an overview by Beth Johnson from the Lindbergh School District on a message map SDZ districts have created to support communicating this work to local stakeholders.
