Jan 10, 2024

Session 5

Concepts for this All Zones Session

Using the Missouri Framework and a CBL/RWL mind-set, participants will:

  • Gain a general understanding of the Alternative Annual Performance Report work being done by the System Design Zone district

  • Understand the connection between learner agency and Real World Learning

5.1: Understanding the SDZ Demonstration Project

Dr. Charles Pearson provided an overview of the SRSN work followed by Dr. Mike Fulton, Lead SRSN Facilitator providing an overview of the Demonstration Project timeline and progress on the upcoming DESE report; how our Theory of Action in Assessment supports the reimagining and redesigning of our state Assessment and Accountability systems; and clarified the meanings of Growth to Standard and Growth to Readiness [Mastery].

5.2: Empowering Agency Through Real World Learning

Tom Vander Ark of the Core Collaborative offered several iterations of the evolving term “student agency” and recent research that looks at the intersection of empowering student agency and AI. Additionally, Tom provided examples of “Portraits of A Graduate” from across the nation, noting the most effective processes used to develop the Portrait of a Graduate in a district. Districts can begin with the collaborative development of a Portrait of a Graduate and link it to their Comprehensive School Improvement Plan or begin with the CSIP and allow it to guide the development of the Portrait.
