Concepts for this All Zones Session

Using the Missouri Framework and a CBL/RWL mind-set, participants will:

  • Understand and apply the foundational ideas of Clarity to Competency: Learning Intentions & Success Criteria to personalized competency based learning practice

  • Understand the latest updates from the Demonstration Project Waiver

4.1: Overview of SDZ Cohort 1 Demonstration Project Waiver Progress (state and federal)

Dr. Mike Fulton provides an overview of the current status of the SDZ Cohort 2 work toward designing a new approach to Missouri’s current education accountability system (alternative APR) and discusses the status of the Federal Waiver design.

4.2: Deeper Learning Pathways Opportunities

Dr. Pam Hedgpeth shares an overview of all the learning opportunities for educators working in any SRSN district or organization. There are over 40 free sessions connected to four learning pathways. National experts are presenting Zoom sessions on a variety of topics connected to personalized competency based learning. The four pathways include: curriculum, instruction, assessment, and leadership. SRSN participants are encouraged to sign up for these sessions.

4.3: Surface, Deep, Transfer: Redefining Rigor to move towards Competency Based Learning

This session provides an overview of the rigorous learning that underscores a Competency Based System. It provides an overview of learning complexity, the core instructional, assessment, and learning habits that are required to meet rigorous learning expectations, as well as the learner qualities or dispositions that enable students to leverage competency based education to be assessment capable learners. In addition, this session provides an overview of the organizational leadership that is necessary to engage and sustain a competency based learning approach in their schools and systems.
